Blockfest Africa 2025

One thing that truly stood out to me from Blockfest Africa 2025 is that great things can start from small places.

The event, held at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, brought together an incredible mix of builders, founders, investors, developers, and creatives from all across the continent and beyond. With over 12,000 attendees, both physically and virtually, the energy was electric from start to finish.

Beautifully hosted by Flames, Xploit, Jozieh, Kamara, and Dotify, the synergy between the hosts kept the entire atmosphere lively and engaging, setting the perfect tone for what turned out to be one of the most inspiring gatherings in Africa’s Web3 and tech space.

Breaking Borders with Talent

The day kicked off with an inspiring keynote by the Founder of Web3Afrika, Idris Olubisi, who shared deep insights on how Africans can showcase their talent globally. Moreover, he spoke passionately about different routes people can take, like the Global Talent route, to expand their reach and visibility. In addition, he encouraged Nigerians to explore opportunities beyond borders and transform their ideas into real impact. Altogether, his message set a strong and motivating tone for the rest of the event. His message set a powerful tone for what was to come.

Blockfest Convener

Next came Sir Samuel Olaoyenikan, the convener of Blockfest Africa and Founder of Nirvana Academy, who gave an impactful speech. He emphasized collaboration, education, and community. He also reminded everyone that Africa’s Web3 future depends on how well we show up, tell our stories, and focus on sustainable impact. Highlighting Nigeria’s impressive crypto transaction volume, he encouraged everyone to think beyond profits and focus on empowerment and innovation.

From Potential to Power

Hon. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, followed with his keynote session titled “From Potential to Power.” His session was one of the most insightful moments of the day. He spoke about the power of youth and the importance of turning potential into real progress. He also emphasized the need for young people to build capacity and confidence in the digital space. His words reminded us that Africa’s next wave of transformation will be youth-led and youth-driven.

Code or Lead

The Code or Lead Session

One of my favorite moments was the “Code or Lead?” session. That part resonated with me the most because it gave developers real clarity on something that has always been confusing. The panel was moderated by Ms Peace Ega and featured Sir Harri Obi, Sir Seun Lanlege, Sir Ebunayo Ayodeji, Sir Toochukwu Okoro, and Sir Gilchrist Emeremgini. They shared deep insights on what it truly means to be a developer or a founder. Each speaker emphasized the need for balance between ideas and action. One key takeaway was that vision without execution is just vibes. They also encouraged developers to take initiative and lead when necessary. It was inspiring to hear how hybrid skills can change the game for Africa’s startup ecosystem.

The exhibition area was another highlight. The booths from sponsors and partners like Nirvana Academy, Jeroid, Hyperbridge, Sui, CakeWallet, Somnia Africa, Jupiter Nigeria, and others didn’t just take up space, they drew crowds. Each booth was buzzing with activity, from product demos to merch drops and networking. It was more than just an exhibition; it was a live showcase of innovation, creativity, and collaboration in action.

Furthermore, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria, emphasized the need for balance between innovation and regulation. He clarified that the government isn’t against innovation but wants it pursued responsibly. His message highlighted the importance of building a sustainable digital future. His advice to founders was to build compliant solutions from the start and focus on creating real value. Throughout the day, there were several other thought-provoking discussions about funding, compliance, policy, creativity, and the future of blockchain in Africa.

Rounding Up

Blockfest Africa 2025 was an experience that reminded everyone that Africa is not just catching up; we are leading the way. From the conversations to the connections, and from the speakers to the energy of the crowd, everything about the day spoke of growth, ambition, and unity.

Of course, this isn’t everything that happened, as there were many more powerful moments, side sessions, and inspiring interactions. I may not have captured every single detail, but this is basically what I can remember from my experience. Even with just these memories, the impact of Blockfest Africa 2025 was undeniable. It was an event that truly left a lasting impression.

Blockfest Africa 2025 proved one thing beyond any doubt: that truly great things can rise from the smallest beginnings. It was a powerful reminder that innovation doesn’t always start in the biggest cities or with the loudest voices but with passionate people who dare to dream, build, and believe in something bigger than themselves.
