On September 12, 2023, Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, tragically passed away under circumstances that have since sparked significant public scrutiny and controversy. Mohbad was dealing with a painful hand injury from a physical altercation the day before, leading to swelling and acute pain. Despite his family and friends urging him to seek professional medical care, he opted to remain at home, eventually relying on the help of his friend, Ayobami Sodiq, also known as “Spending”.
Role of Ayobami Sodiq and Medical Assistance
When Mohbad’s hand began to swell and his pain intensified, Sodiq reportedly took charge of arranging medical intervention by contacting an auxiliary nurse named Feyisayo Ogedengbe. Sodiq and Mohbad had initially sought Mohbad’s personal nurse, who was unavailable, which led Sodiq to call Ogedengbe as a substitute. She arrived the next day, carrying medications including Ceftriaxone (an antibiotic), paracetamol, and Tetanus Toxoid. During the administration of these drugs, Mohbad began experiencing severe side effects: vomiting, goosebumps, and eventually convulsions.
Ogedengbe immediately attempted to counter these adverse reactions by obtaining additional supplies, including saline and other necessary medications, but by the time she returned, Mohbad’s condition had worsened. He was rushed to Cura-Med Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. His death was further confirmed at Perez Hospital, leaving his friends and family in shock and spurring demands for a detailed investigation into the circumstances.

The Lagos State Police have since launched a thorough inquiry, revealing that Sodiq played a key role by arranging the nurse’s visit, although there was no evidence to suggest that Sodiq intended harm. The medical team at Cura-Med Hospital noted that Mohbad might have suffered a fatal reaction to Ceftriaxone, especially given the sequence of symptoms that appeared right after its administration. However, questions arose about the nurse’s qualifications, as she lacked formal medical training—a fact that complicated the case and intensified concerns surrounding the standard of care.
